Revenue Projects / Winback

Give the right former customers a reason to return.

Understand why they left, find what has changed and prepare a relevant way back into the conversation. Reconnect when there is something useful to say.

Try the example

Which former customers are worth reconnecting with this quarter?

Their cancellation notes mention scheduled reports. Your latest release supports them. Check the fit with the former account owner before reaching out.

Sam should verify the format and recipient requirements before approaching them. If the gap is resolved, offer a short walkthrough — not an automatic discount.

Illustrative example. No live connections or actions.

How Winback works.

Remember why the relationship ended

Read cancellation notes, previous conversations and support history. Separate a missing capability from price, service or a change in requirements. An unknown reason stays unknown.

Find a meaningful reason to return

Compare that history with your current products and relevant account changes. Use known follow-up dates and verified context. Time elapsed alone is not a reason to contact someone.

Reopen the conversation thoughtfully

Bring the evidence and a personal draft to the account owner. Track conversations reopened, qualified opportunities and customers won back separately. Count recovered revenue only when the return is confirmed.

Built around your process.

Agree contact exclusions, outreach spacing and who reviews each approach. Hold accounts with unresolved complaints or no credible reason to reconnect. Missing information becomes research work, not invented certainty.

Start with

Former-customer records, cancellation reasons, account history and your current product portfolio.

Add context where connected

Support history, published release notes, agreed follow-up dates and approved account research.

Connections, access and available actions are scoped during setup.

Before you start.

Who belongs in a Winback Project?

Customers who previously bought from you and chose not to renew. Active customers belong in renewal or expansion workflows; never-customers belong in prospecting.

Does every former customer receive an email?

No. The project can recommend research, an internal conversation or no outreach. Contact exclusions, unresolved complaints and previous approaches must be checked before a draft is used.

How do we measure success?

Track contact, reopened conversations, qualified opportunities and confirmed returns. A former account’s previous value is context, not recovered revenue.
